POSITION OVERVIEW: Field Service Technician responsible for maintaining, servicing, and replacing Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and fare gate systems on Miami-Dade's light rail transit network. This role requires intermediate-level technical expertise and the ability to work independently while maintaining high service standards for critical transit infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Equipment Maintenance & Repair:
- Maintain, service, and troubleshoot Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and fare gate systems across Miami-Dade light rail stations
- Read and interpret complex schematics, engineering drawings, work orders, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications
- Initialize and commission electronic transit equipment for optimal performance
- Analyze equipment operations to determine malfunctions, troubleshoot errors, repair modules, and replace components as needed
- Perform preventive maintenance according to established schedules and manufacturer guidelines
- Remove and replace faulty equipment using proper procedures and safety protocols
Field Operations & Logistics:
- Operate company van to travel between multiple transit stations throughout Miami-Dade County
- Maintain and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment
- Order replacement parts and components from approved vendor parts lists
- Respond promptly to emergency service calls and equipment failures
- Coordinate with transit operations to minimize service disruptions
Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed service reports, maintenance logs, and equipment records
- Document all maintenance activities, parts usage, and time spent on each service call
- Submit timely reports to supervisors and DADE Transit Authority as required
- Use mobile devices and software applications for real-time reporting and work order management
Communication & Teamwork:
- Communicate effectively with transit operations staff, supervisors, and other technicians
- Collaborate with team members and demonstrate willingness to learn new technologies and procedures
- Maintain professional demeanor when working in public transit environments
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
- Two-year college degree or equivalent in electronics, computer science, information systems, or related technical field
- Minimum 2 years of field service or electronic equipment maintenance experience (intermediate level required - no entry level)
- Experience with transit equipment, vending machines, or similar electronic systems preferred
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and computerized maintenance management systems
- Ability to obtain solder certification within 90 days of employment
- Strong computer literacy and ability to use mobile reporting applications
- Experience with general purpose test equipment, hand tools, and specialized tooling
Physical & Professional Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and maneuver heavy equipment
- Capability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods; climb stairs and work in various weather conditions
- Valid Florida Driver's License with clean driving record
- Must pass comprehensive background check and drug screening
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Must be able and willing to work weekends and evenings as needed for emergency repairs and maintenance windows
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work at various light rail stations throughout Miami-Dade County
- Exposure to weather conditions and transit environment noise
- Flexible schedule requirements including occasional evenings and weekends
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- Salary: $24-$26 per hour (based on experience)
- Schedule: M-F 7am-4pm and OT

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience with transit authority or public transportation systems is plus
- Familiarity with Miami-Dade County geography and transit network
